The Love of Beer

Love of beer’ is an obsession; it is a passion sometime hard to explain. Beer is a well know recreational time pass Australians’ enjoy. An obsession cannot determine the ‘love of beer’ but can certainly help to understand and appreciate ‘the beer’.  Beer is something that can easily break all barriers local as well as international. Beer is a common global beverage. Presence of beer is omnipotent.

Alchemy of beer making is a fine process; known since the ages. Beer is a ‘versatile’ and ‘flexible-food companion’, that everyone wants; especially on a hot summer Australian day. Beer is a fantastic drink to have along with any kind of food or any style of cuisine. Australian beer is known for superb quality around the world. Different types and flavors’ of beer are easily available. Beer can be identified by its strength quotient as well as type of flavor. For instance; there is light-beer, mid-strength beer, and heavy-beer. A light beer is generally low on alcohol content mostly 2 percent of alcohol by volume. Mid-strength beer is around 4 percent of alcohol by volume.  Last but not the least heavy beer has an alcohol content of around 6 percent by volume. ‘Very Australian beer’… Larger is ideally made from bottom-fermenting yeast like Foster beer. Foster beer is exceedingly well known nationally as well as internationally.

Ales are generally mild and fruity flavored beers. Ales come in various flavors like apple, lemon grass, pineapple, plum, and prune. Bitter hop taste is prominent in larger beer.  New and exotic spices are added to beer these days; since they improve the taste and help in its preservation. Coriander, curacao, and other spices increase shelf life of a beer.  Dark beer is something like stout. It is made up of roasted malts, and is darker in appearance.Pilsener beer is made by using famous Pilsener method. It comes in both mild and moderate strength. It is also made from hop and has a dry finish. To sum-up there is flavor, texture, color, and pleasant aroma in beer. Different type’s beer satisfies a wide range of taste buds. It is only fair all different type personalities get to enjoy beer.

Nothing is more satisfying than a chilled beer to quench your thirst, especially on a hot and sweltering summer’s day. A perfect glass of beer seems just right. Go ahead have a fine glass of beer. Beer is the best beverage to drink, but responsible drinking is the ‘bestest’. Chill out with a cold one today!

Broome Cable Beach Basketball 2011

Broome’s world famous Cable Beach will host a unique, outdoor international basketball event next month involving some of the game’s most talented players from China, Singapore, Indonesia and Australia.

Tourism Minister Kim Hames said the teams would play basketball under the Kimberley stars on a specially-made court, with seating for about 1,500 spectators

“It’s the kind of event that will generate significant vibrancy in the Kimberley region as well as valuable international media exposure for Broome and Cable Beach.

With tip-off only metres from the shoreline, the inaugural Cable Beach Invitational will be held over two nights on Friday, 30th September and Saturday, 1st October 2011. The open-air, beach-side basketball court will give spectators a view of some of Asia Pacific’s best game play under the Kimberley stars.

This project has been the culmination of four years of hard work for Andrew Vlahov and his team at RV sports.

The Department of Sport and Recreation’s Kimberley office is heavily involved in the support program, which includes coaching clinics and junior carnivals in the lead-up to the event.

Dr Hames said the Cable Beach Invitational was one of a raft of new events that were transforming Western Australia’s annual events calendar for 2011.

“We are entering a new era of events in WA thanks to the massive $60million injection of funds – of which $40million was contributed by the State Government’s Royalties for Regions program – over the next four years announced in the May Budget,” he said.

ESPN Star will broadcast live to an audience of around 135 million subscribers in South East Asia and China.

And of course Matso’s Beer is the official beer sponsor for this event.

So come down and enjoy a cold one and watch these fantastic teams battle it out!

Aussie beer a guide to the brews down under

All the good things in life come in finely brewed and neatly packed bottles…Beer bottles. Gracing happy occasions, toasting buddy’s success, kicking of shoes after a hard day’s work or just chilling out with like-minded friends sharing in the joy of raising a glass to sunny Australia. Naturally, we all go Cheers! Whatever or whoever you are in the world; you can enter into the spirit of celebration with a chilled Aussie beer. Beer is product of years of refined knowledge and extensive trail-and-error process. Superior quality organic grains, yeast and good brewing techniques go into making of that perfect glass of beer. Elegant smooth flavors, rich aroma, beautifully textured, finely colored and cold-creamy froth gives you this feeling of comfort and joy untold. It’s no secret Beer bottles or beer kegs are sight of sore eye even on unhappy occasions.

Popularly people blame beer as the ‘weight-gaining culprit.’ But with scientific progress as well as technological advances it has been successfully proved that beer is actually good for the health. Beer in moderation (on an average 2 glasses a day) is good for the heart and overall health. Lesser known fact about beer is that; beer is a rich source of vital vitamins. Beer has malt and barley which has important vitamins like potassium, phosphorus, magnesium and calcium.

Australia has some the best quality beer to sample and savor the flavors. Different people like different brand and different types of beer. Although we prefer you drinking our Matso’s beers some of the popular choices down under are…

•Coopers Pale Ale; this beer has a fruity flavor to it.
Just right for any occasion. It is a double fermented beer.

•Foster’s Lager; Globally known face of Australian beer. Best selling beer in Australia and worldwide.

•James Squires; this brand is quite popular in Sydney Harbour. Best seller is Amber ale has three different types of flavors one is sweeter, another kind has a citrus bitterness kick to it and last one which also a hot favorite has fresh-fruity dry finish to it.
After a long, hot, summer day perfect choice to quench your thirst with.

• Pure Blonde; this was the first low carbohydrate beer
in Australia. Full strength, superior quality and lightly flavored.

• Stout; also called the dark beer because it is
made using roasted malt and is darker in appearance.

Moderation is the key-point to remember when drinking beer. Drink responsibly.

Color me happy,
Color me sad,
East or West,
Aussie Beer is the best!! Cheers people hale and hearty drinking!

Prita Grealy

BIO: Prita’s unique sound is ‘Hip-So-Fo’. It combines her love of Hip-Hop, Soul and Folk with the use of a live loop pedal and effortlessly layers funky urban harmonies, acoustic fingerpicking guitar and beat boxing. These contrasting dynamics add another element to her live solo show, which audiences have described as ‘captivating, inspiring and uplifting’. Prita’s songwriting is both storytelling and Jazzy, with her big bluesy soulful voice and a natural ear for harmony; she has been likened to KT Tunstall, Tracy Chapman and Norah Jones. Fans say her candid approach to song-writing and performing is like ‘watching open heart surgery’.

Broome Visitor Centre Experiences Matso’s Brewery Tours

Matso’s Broome Brewery was privy on Friday night to a visit by the Broome Visitor centre team, who came down to experience our latest product on offer at Matso’s, our new Brewery tours.

They listened attentively whilst our German Master Brewer Marcus Muller gave them all an informative run down on the mash brewing process, ingredients and some history of not only the beer but his own experiences to date.

After seeing where the beer was made the team retired to captain gregory’s table to sample some of the beers, this is where our brew master broke down the flavour profiles of five of the ten beers we currently have on tap.

Matso’s famous Kimberley tasting plates were served and there were smiles all round.

Pilot scheme for tourism workers from East Timor in Broome.

Minister for Tourism, Martin Ferguson AM MP, said today’s announcement to expand the Pacific Seasonal Worker Pilot Scheme will help tourism operators in Broome meet the challenge of finding enough workers in peak periods.

In addition to inviting Nauru, Samoa, Solomon Islands and Tuvalu to join the Pacific Seasonal Worker Pilot Scheme, the Government will also trial a new seasonal labour mobility arrangement under the banner of the pilot to offer workers from East Timor the opportunity to undertake seasonal work in the tourism sector in Broome.

“We know Australia’s tourism industry has been struggling over a long period to find and compete for workers, particularly in regional areas. The Pacific Seasonal Worker Pilot Scheme has been very successful in the horticulture industry so it makes sense to trial this proven approach in the tourism sector,” Minister Ferguson said.

“This is a win-win. The expansion of the Pilot Scheme recognises the importance of tourism and services exports to both East Timor and Broome’s local economies.

“Workers from East Timor will have the opportunity to be paid to train and work in Broome for four to six months in tourism enterprises who show they can not source sufficient labour locally to meet seasonal demands.

“Workers will be employed in accordance with Australian work standards and will be supported throughout their stay by approved employers who must provide pastoral care assistance and help for the workers to engage with local communities.

“The Pilot will build on the existing close ties between Broome and East Timor which have been generated through the successful Pilot Pearl Production Cadetship program and help fill labour shortages.

“By gaining skills in Australia, workers will be encouraged to take their expertise back to East Timor to help boost tourism and employment.

“The expansion of the pilot is an opportunity to trial the first seasonal workers scheme for the tourism sector in a regional area.

“We look forward to working with East Timor to continue to strengthen our cultural and economic ties.”

THE LOVE FOR BEER

THE LOVE FOR
BEER

Australia was introduced to beer at the beginning of the western colonization. Little did one know that one day it would become the most popular drink of Australia. The first official brewer in Australia was John Boston who passionately brewed some Indian bitter corn with Cape gooseberry leaves, quite a combination! The first fun place or pub in Australia was the Mason Arms which was opened in 1796 in Parramatta by James Larra who had been a convict. In 1804 the government opened the first brewery in Parramatta which after 2 years got sold out to Thomas Rushton who was the owner of a rival private brewery. By the year 1871, the number of breweries mushroomed all over Australia and back then there were around 126 breweries in Victoria alone.

Beer comes with a lot of variety to suit one’s taste preferences. A few of them to name are Ale, Millet beer, Lager, Malt beer, Fruit beer, Smoked beer and so on. The most loved beer style of the Australian territory is Lager. The Australian alcohol market is worth $16.3 billion out of which beer covers 48% in comparison with wine which has a share of 29% and other spirits have 21%. Today beer is the most popular and best quality drink of Australia. Whereas, this was not the case during the earlier times, Rum was the first choice of the initial settlers and convicts of Australia. Later, beer was promoted as a healthier and better alternative to Rum.

matsos courtyard

There is a humungous amount (around 95%) of Lager being produced today as it is the most loved type of Australian beer. Despite the popular demand for Lager, Dark beers and Stout are still prepared. The cosmopolitan crowd or the urban city mob is also inclined towards a wide variety of Ales, as well as other foreign beer. Numerous microbreweries have spread across various small towns in Australia. Two of the Australian Corporate brewers have their beers sold all over the globe. The Foster’s Group brews Guinness, Stella Artois, Kronenbourg and Carlsberg whereas Lion Nathan locally produces Heineken, Beck’s and Kirin.

Most commonly sold Australian bottled beer is either in 375ml (also known as stubby) or 750ml bottles (commonly known as long neck). Recently, the small sized beer bottles of 330ml or 345ml are being extensively produced at most microbreweries. A large 2 liter bottle famously knows as ‘Darwin Stubby’ was quite popular sometime ago and was very successfully sold at tourist gimmicks those days. Beer has been a drink close to the heart of every Australian and it has won hearts all over the world with its quality and great taste.
